VU Meter Widget for Individual Clips, Colors, and Channels

Description
This feature request proposes the addition of a dedicated VU Meter widget in Loopy Pro, allowing users to visualize audio levels on a per-clip, per-color, or per-channel basis. The goal is to offer flexible, user-placeable level metering that integrates seamlessly into custom canvas layouts.
Problems
- No Flexible Visual Level Feedback: Currently, users rely on the mixer view to see audio levels, which may not be suitable for custom UI layouts or live use.
- Limited Metering Per Element: There's no way to display levels per clip, per color group, or per audio channel directly on the canvas.
- Disruptive Workflow: Switching to the mixer panel for metering breaks visual continuity and can be impractical during performance.
Proposed Solution
- New Widget Type: VU Meter
- Can be linked to a single clip, a group of clips (via color), or an entire audio channel.
- Option to assign multiple metering sources to a single widget (e.g. vertical stacks or multi-segment meters).
- Fully Customizable Placement:
- Can be freely placed and resized on the canvas like any other widget.
- Visual style settings (e.g., vertical/horizontal orientation, peak hold, scale).
- Dynamic Behavior:
- Highlights the currently active clip (if linked to a group or color).
- Reflects both pre-fader and post-fader levels (user-selectable).
Examples
- Custom Performance Layout: A user builds a performance interface using only widgets, with no need to open the mixer — each color-coded group has its own compact level meter.
- Clip-Level Visual Feedback: During overdub-heavy performances, the artist assigns one VU widget to each active clip, making it easy to monitor activity visually.
- Channel Group Monitoring: A producer creates a stack of meters on the canvas representing multiple audio input/output channels, using different widgets for each.
Benefits
- Improved Visual Awareness: Users get instant, direct feedback on what's playing and how loud — without opening the mixer.
- Flexible Layouts: Perfect for building tailored performance environments with visual metering baked into the canvas.
- Advanced Use Cases: Ideal for studio routing, live setups, or multi-source monitoring, where precise visual cues matter.

Oh yeah,
I treat the integrated mixer view as a "backend" which I only use when necessary, and I would want to create my own UI using the widgets.
VU widget with ability to target an audio or midi channel would be very welcome.
Gradient graphics or stepped graphics would be great, but any sort of resizable VU meter would be very very welcome.

Kalle Niemi: Fully agree.

Was about to make a new feature request but this gets close enough. I dont necessarily need it only for clip. Would like to be able to meter whatever I want in the canvas with a widget. To expand upon this it would be amazing if the slider widget could be added to to just have a meter integrated into it somehow.

Yes please! That would be awesome.

Ideally we can have separate VU meter widgets PER clip but also the same but as collection, means a package of VU meters of specific clips (re-orderable).

Wouldn't all of the 4 loops having to be actively playing to see that? It's a good idea.
The tiny volume meters in each channel is "just OK".

AJ Kerezyyeah i guess it could be a thing so they were like just not showing when the clips are off
